The problem

The construction sector is one of the world's leading sources of environmental pollution, having massive direct and indirect effects on the environment.

Here some facts

The construction sector is responsible for about 38% of the world’s CO2 emissions, for 50% of all raw material extracted on earth and represents almost 1/3 of the waste generated in the EU! It’s mind-blowing! The industry is also asking for a change as natural materials are getting expensive and scarce, and the law/policy for waste is getting tight with climate change.

Waste is the solution

Waste valorisation is still beginning, and there is much to be done for circular construction.

Over 90% of demolition waste is inert and includes bricks, stones, cement, tiles, etc. Unfortunately, there’s a lack of interest in this type of waste, mainly restricted to producing low-value aggregates or filling roadbeds and the many landfills, reducing the potential of circular construction. It’s time for a shift!

Matterpieces aims to change inert waste valorisation, turning this waste into a strategic and noble material for the world’s architecture and space design!
